Comparing listings

Compare car trims, engines and gearboxes before prices

Make like-for-like used car comparisons by checking trim, engine, gearbox, body style and model generation before assessing an asking-price difference.

Before comparing two asking prices, confirm that the adverts describe vehicles you would consider equivalent. Make and model alone are rarely enough. Trim, engine, transmission, body style and model generation can change both suitability and the set of sensible alternatives.

Build an identity row for each candidate

Use a simple row with year, model generation, trim, engine, gearbox and body style. Copy only stated details. Leave uncertain fields blank and add a question for the seller. A familiar badge is not evidence that every vehicle wearing it has the same equipment.

Separate a registration date from a stated model year when an advert distinguishes them. Imported vehicles and changes around a model update can make a year-only comparison especially unclear. Confirm the version rather than assuming a precise specification from the date.

Distinguish essential equipment from trim labels

If you need an automatic gearbox, that requirement matters more than a badge associated with a trim you like. If you need a particular seating layout, ask for that layout directly. Equipment can vary by market or be added later, so photographs of one feature do not settle the whole specification.

For a work van, roof height and wheelbase may be more important than trim. For a small family car, rear-seat access and body style may determine whether the car belongs on your shortlist at all.

A practical comparison table

Detail Candidate A Candidate B What to do
Gearbox Automatic stated Not stated Ask before comparing
Body Hatchback Sedan Check both fit your needs
Trim Badge only Named in description Confirm specification
Mileage Figure supplied Figure supplied Check units and plausibility

This is an illustrative structure, not a claim about any particular vehicle. The unanswered fields are useful because they show why a price comparison remains incomplete.

Use the supported vehicle fields in Autofindr to express firm requirements. If an exact variant is unavailable or unknown, read the configuration explanation and choose whether to review broader matches. Do not quietly substitute a different model just to produce results.

Once the identity is clear, compare asking prices within the appropriate group.
