Browser extensions versus server-run vehicle searches

Understand the practical differences between a browser-based vehicle monitor and a service-run search, including setup, device availability and records.

A browser-based vehicle monitor and a server-run search can both help discover adverts, but they place different demands on your setup. Compare where the checking happens, what must stay running and how you review matches. Do not assume all extensions or all hosted services behave identically.

Check what your own device must do

Some browser tools depend on an open browser or a signed-in marketplace session. Confirm the requirements of the specific product. If the computer sleeps or the browser closes, understand what happens to monitoring rather than discovering the limitation after a buying opportunity has passed.

A server-run service such as Autofindr schedules its configured searches separately from your browsing session. Closing the marketing site does not itself stop an active search. Marketplace availability and your search’s status can still affect the result.

Understand the setup and information boundary

Read what an extension needs access to and how it uses the current browser session. A claim that credentials remain local describes a different setup from a service that does not request marketplace credentials at all. Evaluate the actual product rather than treating the category name as a security verdict.

Autofindr does not ask for marketplace passwords. You still use the original marketplace or seller contact path when you are ready to investigate a match.

Compare the review workflow

A buyer using one computer all day may be comfortable with a browser-based tool. Someone switching devices may prefer searches and retained matches available through a separate workspace. Consider how you will save candidates and whether you need purchase records later.

Questions worth answering include:

  • What must remain open for checks to continue?
  • Where do matches appear and how are they retained?
  • Which vehicle facts are actually available?
  • How do you find out that a search needs attention?
  • Can records be exported when needed?

Decide using your routine

Take a typical day, including times when your computer is off, and check whether the chosen setup fits. Then compare supported countries, sources and costs directly. There is no useful universal claim that one category is always faster or more complete.

Autofindr provides conditional price comparisons and a vehicle register alongside searches, while native app store releases are still being prepared. Those details matter more than a vague promise of continuous monitoring. Choose the workflow whose requirements you understand and can reliably maintain.
